viewranger user guide for dummies

Some good questions have come in about Viewranger. Its a free GPS device for your phone . The Topo maps cost something v marginal like $5 for all NZ or something like that....

Its great as you will never have to wonder again if you are on track or not.....

Chriss super basic instructions for Viewranger novices. Only works on Android and Apple i think not windows

1 How to use it

I personally would only turn my phone on during run (unless you are recording route) to see where i was to save battery. When you click the GPS button it will show you EXACTLY where you are on the map.The beauty of this APP is its accuracy -The S and R people in UK use it!  There is a small circle on main screen that means turn on GPS.

2 Load Topo Maps

Download the topo map tiles you need from a list of all NZ . I have loaded Tararuas and Aorangis. Go Top left the three lines, organiser Then Maps Get more maps.....Premium Maps Custom Areas Topo50 by tile. You will need to have bought some credit.

3 Load GPX

You don't have to load the race route as tracks are fairly straight forward but The GPX of Aorangi Undulator is on http://chrismartinc.wix.com/aorangi-undulator#!race-map-and-profile/c7z4

Under Race map and profile section. Then copy to your Viewtanger folder on your phone. Go Organiser -Upload GPX

Here is the official site on GPX
